33rd Tennessee Infantry, Company D, also known as “The Forest Rovers” but this nomenclature is traditional rather than accepted.
The company had their first meeting at Beulah Church on August 14, 1861 and completed its organization by September 5, 1861. The roll of the officers and entire company was taken from the original roll that A. E. Ratliff had and carried throughout the war, it being the only thing the enemy would allow him to keep. To this we have added from the official Muster Roll of 18 Aug 1862. The 33rd merged into the 3rd Consolidated Tennessee Infantry Regiment on 9 Apr 1865, and were paroled at Greensboro, NC as part of that regiment on 1 May 1865.
Company D of the 33rd Tennessee was largely recruited from Obion County.
