George Avery was born in North Carolina. According to his Revolutionary War Pension Application below, he enlisted in Edgecombe County, North Carolina in August 1782, at age 18, just as the Revolutionary War was ending. He served as a Private in Capt. Peter Bacot’s Company, Col. Archibald Lytle’s North Carolina Regiment, was engaged in no battles, and served until about August 1, 1783. Moore County lies in the south central portion of Tennessee, and is bounded on the north by Bedford, east by Coffee, south by Franklin, and west by Lincoln. It contains about 170 square miles, and its surface is greatly diversified. About one-half the county lies on the Highland Rim, and the remainder of the county lies in the Central Basin.
